Short stays

Respite care, short stays when you need them

Respite care is a short stay in the community, not a permanent move. Both Sugarmill Manor and The Gardens offer it, in assisted living or the secured memory care section.

Respite care is a short stay in an assisted living community, usually a few days to a few weeks, for someone who is not ready to move in for good. The guest gets a furnished room, meals, activities, and the same day to day care a permanent resident gets, then goes home when the stay is over.

Both of our Citrus County communities offer respite stays, in assisted living or in the secured memory care section, depending on what your parent needs. Call the community to check availability and arrange the dates.

When a respite stay helps

A break for the family caregiver

If you care for a parent at home, a respite stay covers the days you travel, recover from your own surgery, or simply rest. Your parent is looked after around the clock while you are away, and you pick them up when you are back.

Recovery after a hospital or rehab stay

When a parent has finished a hospital or rehab stay but is not steady enough to be home alone yet, a respite stay bridges the gap. They get help with medications, meals, and mobility in a safe place while they regain their footing.

A trial run before a permanent move

A short stay is the honest way to find out whether a community fits before anyone commits. Your parent sleeps in a real room, eats in the dining room, and joins the activities, and you both learn more in a week than any tour can tell you.

What a respite stay includes

  • A furnished private room, ready to move into
  • Three home cooked meals a day
  • Help with medications, bathing, dressing, and getting around
  • The full activities calendar, the same as permanent residents
  • Assisted living or the secured memory care section, whichever fits
  • A real person on the phone to arrange the dates
