The Gardens in Crystal River is the nearer of our two communities, about 37 minutes west, and Sugarmill Manor in Homosassa is about 38 minutes. Both are family owned, both accept Florida Medicaid, and both offer assisted living and secured memory care in the same building.
Inverness sits inland on US 41, and both of our communities are on the coast side of the county. The drive west is short enough to tour before discharge and visit often once your parent moves in.
When assisted living is the right next step
Medicare covers a skilled rehab stay for a limited time, and only while daily skilled care is needed. When a parent is stronger but not ready to live alone, assisted living picks up from there with help for bathing, dressing, medication reminders, and meals, and caregivers on site around the clock.

Ask Avante whether a stay counted as inpatient or observation. Only inpatient nights count toward Medicare's skilled nursing coverage, and it can change what Medicare pays.
